University of Piraeus

Department of Informatics

The University of Piraeus was founded in 1938 to provide economic, legal and technical education to industrial executives. The University with a total of ten academic departments and 9.300 bachelor and master students focuses mainly on Business Management, Computer science, Economics, Finance and Maritime Studies.

The University through the Department of Informatics and the Embedded Systems Laboratory (ESLab) is specialized, among other domains, in the design of reliable and secure embedded systems. More particularly, ESLab focuses on the development of hardware and software-based methodologies for the design and evaluation validation, testing of secure and reliable embedded systems using Hardware Security techniques, and fault tolerance of embedded systems emphasizing embedded processors and FPGAs. To give the opportunity to the students to develop their abilities on the aforementioned topics several courses already exist while others are currently under development to enhance and modernize the existing Master curriculum. Primarily, the MSc course IoT and Embedded Systems concerns the design of secure and reliable IoT applications, sensor networks and wireless communication systems. This course is supported by a laboratory where the students undertake a project so as for them to obtain supervised experience on developing a complete IoT system. A short introduction to hardware security is also included in the course by means of a laboratory on Side-Channel Analysis attacks.
